Mahmudullah All Set To Get T20 Lifeline

Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Wednesday that all is not gone for Mahmudullah as far as T20 cricket is concerned.

Mahmudullah, the former T20 skipper, is out of the shortest format for quite some time but the experience campaigners showed he still have something to offer by guiding Fortune Barishal to a victory with a scintillating half-century at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on January 30.

Mahmudullah was also not considered for the ICC World Cup but made his presence felt by becoming the highest scorer for his country in the showpiece event, played in India last year.

BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus was so impressed with his half century in BPL that he insisted the right-handed batsman is not too far away from being picked in the shortest format.

“What will say ….. brilliant performance by Riyad (Mahmudullah). One thing have to notice, where his strike rate was in T20 World Cup, that was fantastic. He automatically comes to T20 with that strike rate,” Jalal told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.

“Now he has proved it. Wherever (position) he is playing, is automatic choice.. At this moment the question is not rising whether he will get a chance or not . He is doing well, he is performing well. Now he has become a performer. I think he automatically comes into the side. There is no second thought,” he said.

“Age is not a factor. How much he is fit physically that is very important. Anderson is still bowling at the age of 41, in Tests. If any player keeps himself fit, he can continue. If he performs well, then there is no problem to keep him in the team. He is performing. He is proactive in bowling, fielding. Then why not? Age is not a big factor here,” he concluded.
