Mahmudullah Will Be In T20 WC Contention If He Plays Well – Razzak
Abdur Razzak, member of Bangladesh Cricket Board’s selection panel, said on Wednesday that if Mahmudullah keeps performing in the shortest format he will be in consideration for the next T20 World Cup.
Veteran all-rounder Mahmudullah has made a return to the national T20I set-up after 2022 as the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday announced their limited-over squads for the upcoming bilateral series against Sri Lanka.
The 38-year-old, who played his last T20I against Sri Lanka during the Asia Cup T20 in Dubai, had been overlooked for the last one and a half years but his scintillating performance in the ICC World Cup in India as well as the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, made the selectors bring him back to the side though he is not part of BCB central contract for T20 category.
There is no correlation between the central contract and getting a chance in a team. Looking at the previous year, the central contract was made. So last year Riyad did not play T20 that much.
Right now Riyad is playing well and naturally he was included in the side and if he keeps on doing well, he will be in consideration for the World Cup,” Razzak reminded.
Razzak added that Aliss’s unorthodox style could be an asset which is why he was picked.
“Aliss bowled well and the biggest thing was that he is a little unorthodox. So we want to see how he is since if he is good at that [international] level, it will be a good option for the team,” Razzak said.
