Nabi Ends Shakib’s Long Reign As Top All-Rounder In ODIs
Bangladesh star Shakib Al Hasan’s long reign as top all-rounder in the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings is over after Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi claimed the spot with smashing a fine century in the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Pallekele.
Shakib had been in this premier position of limited over cricket for 1739 days – from 7 May 2019 (when he took over from Rashid Khan) until 9 February 2024.
It is considered as the longest unbroken stretch any cricketer has had on top of the ODI all-rounder rankings, informed ICC.
However, Shakib’s total reign has been for a record 4,276 days, which equates to more than 11.5 years. India’s Kapil Dev came next with 3,816 days which includes two stints of 1,376 and 1,375 days.
Nabi, who has been the number one T20I all-rounder in the past, climbed up to the top position in ODIs after his fighting 136 during the opening match of Afghanistan’s three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, while the 39-year-old also picked up a wicket in the same contest to gain one place and move to seventh on the latest rankings for ODI bowlers.
Nabi at 39 years 1 month has become the oldest player to top the ICC ODI All-rounder table, breaking the record held by Sri Lanaka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan, who was 38 years 8 months when he was top in June 2015.
Sri Lanka’s Tillkaratne Dilshan held the previous record at 38 years and eight months when he was number one in June 2015.
