Durdanto Earned Sixth Loss On A Row

Sylhet Strikers extended Durdanto Dhaka’s misery as they defeated them by five wickets during their eighth match of the Bangladesh Premier League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.

, Sylhet were reduced to 74-5 in the 11 overs while chasing a below-par target of 125 runs set by Dhaka despite Najmul Hossain Shanto making 33 off 25 balls.

Dhaka pacer Shoriful Islam claimed 3-27 including the first three Sylhet wickets while Pakistani recruit Usman Qadir also took two wickets but it was Benny Howell (30 not out) and Ryan Burl (29 not out), who put up an unbeaten 55-run stand for the sixth wicket to take Sylhet to 129-5 in 19 overs to clinch their second win in the tournament.

Meanwhile, it was Dhaka’s sixth consecutive defeat in seven games after they won against Comilla Victorians in the opening game.

Earlier, Saif Hassan and Mohammad Naim scored 41 and 36 runs respectively at the top but Dhaka demonstrated yet another disappointing batting performance in the last 10 overs where they could only add 42 runs to remain content with 124-8 in their 20 overs.

Despite losing opener Sabbir Hossain (four) in the opening over after Sylhet chose to bowl first, Dhaka got great momentum in their innings when Naim and Saif added 78 runs in the second wicket stand.

Naim smashed Ariful Haque for successive sixes in the 10th over to take Dhaka’s score 82-1 but Saif’s dismissal to Benny Howell in the next over brought a batting collapse in Dhaka’s innings.

Naim and Alex Ross (five) were dismissed by Samit Patel (2-19) in quick succession while Sylhet’s pacer Rejaur Rahman Raja (3-20) took three wickets of Saim Ayub (10), Irfan Shukkur (eight) and Lasith Croospulle (12) to restrict Dhaka to a below-par total
