Shakib Unsure About His Availability During Sri Lanka Home Series
Bangladesh across-format skipper Shakib al Hasan said on Saturday that he is not sure whether he is available in the forthcoming home series against Sri Lanka.
“Time will tell “We are still playing the tournament. I will speak to the officials, and then take the decision (about playing the Sri Lanka or not),” Shakib told reporters when his attention was drawn regarding his availability during the home series against Sri Lanka.
Shakib added that he will also speak with the board regarding his future as Bangladesh ODI format skipper, a thing he said he is not interested following the World Cup.
“I will take a decision in this regard (ODI captaincy) after talking with the board but still have not discussed about it,” he said.
Shakib is struggling with his eyes since the last World Cup and it remained the same for him in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League T20 tournament where he is featuring for Rangpur Riders.
Shakib added that he is not too worried with the form of his team mates in the ongoing BPL despite they failed to shine as per expectation.
“I don’t think we should talk about it. They will return to their roles in the national team. Everyone is doing well. BPL is a tough competition. Pitches aren’t really ideal this season. It was good last year. National team players sometimes get relaxed after playing a lot. I think they are taking a bit of time. They will gain momentum and do well in the World Cup. We have done well as a team in the T20I format. I will be hopeful that we will do well this year in T20Is and Tests,” he said.
