Why Did Durdanto Fail In BPL?

What happened to Durdanto Dhaka? Ross-Naeem’s runs are ‘excellent’, the team’s pacer Shariful Islam was ‘excellent’ in bowling but result wise they were down at the bottom since their second match in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, country’s lone franchise-based T20 tournament.

In the first match they defeated the defending champions Comilla Victorians. The four-time champions are ahead of Dhaka by weight of name. But Durdanto started the BPL by blowing away Comilla. What better way to start as a new team! But the beginning of the end of Dhaka is also after that first match. After that, Dhaka ended the BPL with a shameful record of 11 consecutive losses. No team in the world’s franchise league has the record of losing so many consecutive matches in a single season.

However, in this year’s BPL, two batsmen Alex Ross and Mohammad Naeem are in the top three of the list of highest run scorers. Shoriful Islam is the highest wicket taker. Australia’s Ross came to play BPL for the first time and played 11 matches and scored 352 runs at an average of 39.11 and a strike rate of 134. 310 runs came from Naeem’s bat in 12 matches. The left-hander played at an average of 25.83 and a strike rate of 119. However, Dhaka’s pacer Shoriful has shown hope in almost every match. Shariful finished the 12-match series with 22 wickets. The left-arm pacer also holds the record for most wickets among pacers in a single BPL season.

But why Durdanto Dhaka could not be as ‘great’ as their name? Kriknews tried to find that answer.

Inconsistent failure of the middle order.

Anyone looking at Dhaka on paper would call the team a bowling team. But the bowlers need consistent runs on the scoreboard to defend. But Dhaka batsmen could not do that. In 12 matches, Dhaka’s runs have exceeded 150 only twice. Dhaka’s middle order batsmen have to take the responsibility. Because Naeem made regular runs from the top order for Dhaka. Australian Alex Ross has done well towards the end of the league stage by adapting to the conditions. Both have crossed three hundred runs. The third highest score of Saif Hasan’s run (145) was also not released.

The name of the big failure is Mosaddek Hossain. The responsibility of this middle-order batsman, experienced in domestic cricket, was to take the innings deep. Setting the stage for finishers to kill. He failed miserably in this duty. Mosaddek’s 9 match run is only 91, strike rate is 92. But at the beginning of the tournament, he was considered the backbone of Dhaka. Irfan Sukkur, Mehrab Hossain also failed.

Taskin Ahmed, the experienced player of the team, was disappointed with the continuous failure of the batsmen and said, ‘We have failed in batting in most of the matches. I think I should have played better cricket. Moreover, if you lose, morale is down. Then something goes wrong. If you find fault now, many problems will come out.’ Later he also said, ‘It is a team game. Two-four people are playing badly somewhere. I will not name. Because it’s a team game. Today it’s bad, tomorrow too. one day i Thus we have done badly. Matches won were lost due to weakness.’

Despair is called spin bowling.

Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam – Dhaka came down with the hope of winning the match with 8 overs of these two. But Dhaka’s performance in this year’s BPL is proof that two bowlers cannot win a twenty-over match consistently. These two pacers of the national team have taken 35 wickets in this year’s BPL. Taking 22 wickets, Shariful was consistent throughout the tournament. Taskin, back from injury, started picking up wickets of late but was slow to regain his rhythm, finishing the tournament with 13 wickets.

But then? Dhaka’s third highest wicket taker is Arafat Sunny who took 7 wickets in 10 matches. Team coach Khaled Mahmood had high hopes for this experienced left-arm spinner before the start of the tournament. But he could not repay the coach’s trust. Foreign recruit Chaturanga de Silva also did not do well. This Lankan who plays regularly in the Dhaka Premier League has also disappointed. His victim is 3 wickets in 7 matches. Expecting the team to do better after such a disappointing performance by the spinners is a little too much. Because the first few weeks of this year’s BPL were dominated by spinners. Especially in all the 12 matches of the Sylhet phase, the spinners got the help of wickets. Dhaka could not use it.

Foreigners failed to deliver?

Durdanto began their campaign late as BCB included them from this edition of the tournament after the previous Dhaka franchise was excluded from the competition for failing to pay BCB on time. Due to the fact there were no foreign big names in the team. Dhaka’s difference with other parties has increased due to this reason. Almost every team in the BPL is a foreign power. Rangpur Riders and Comilla Victorians have always been ahead in this regard. This time too. Stars like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Imran Tahir, Jimmy Neesham are playing for these two teams. Khulna Tigers, Fortune Barisal and Chittagong Challengers are also heavily dependent on foreigners. T20 freelancers from West Indies, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Pakistan are playing in these three teams. From that point of view, among the stars who played in Dhaka, Afghan all-rounder Gulbdin Naib will be mentioned. This Afghan all-rounder could not do anything with the bat in the 3 matches played in the BPL. In this case too, disappointment was Dhaka’s companion.
