Victorians Brought Down High-Flying Challengers
Defending champions Comilla Victorians brought down high flying Chattogram Challengers’ down to earth as they ended their three-match winning streak by handing them a seven-wicket in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, country’s lone franchise-based T20 tournament at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Friday.
During their fifth game of the tournament Victorians left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam turned out to be the star of the show with his four wicket haul after they elected to bowl first..
Tanvir, who claimed 4-13 in his four overs, got good support from other end by off-spinner Aliss Islam as the right-arm off-spinner took two wickets to help Comilla bundled out Chattogram for just 72 runs in 16.3 overs
Tom Bruce made the highest 27 runs for Chattogram.
Comilla, in reply, lost two quick wickets but the total was too small for Chattogram bowlers to defend as Comilla reached 73-3 in just 9.2 overs to clinch their third win in the tournament.
Comilla’s Tawhid Hridoy made a quick-fire 31 off 13 balls while their Pakistani recruit Mohammad Rizwan remained not out on 16 runs.
The victory put defending champions in third place with six points in five matches –ahead of Rangpur Riders which also had six points in same number of matches. Khulna Tigers still top the table with eight points after winning all of their four matches. Chattogram Challengers are in second spot with eight points from six matches.
