Tamim’s Leadership Steers Barishal To Secure A Spot In The BPL 2024 Playoffs
Fortune Barishal secured their spot as the fourth team in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) playoffs on Friday with a convincing win over Comilla Victorians, who had already confirmed their place in the playoffs.
Prior to Barishal and Comilla, Rangpur Riders and Chattogram Challengers had also secured their spots in the playoffs.
Led by captain Tamim Iqbal’s impressive 66 off 48 balls, Barishal comfortably chased down a target of 140 set by Comilla, sealing a six-wicket victory.
This marked Tamim’s second fifty of the BPL season, taking his total runs in the tournament to 392, making him the leading run-scorer, surpassing Towhid Hridoy’s tally of 383.
With their seventh win in the BPL league stage, Barishal accumulated a total of 14 points. This victory dashed the slim hopes of Khulna Tigers for a top-four finish.
Comilla, batting first, posted a total of 140, largely due to Jaker Ali’s rapid 38 off just 16 balls. Taijul Islam was the standout bowler for Barishal, claiming three wickets.
In response, Tamim anchored Barishal’s innings before his dismissal in the 18th over. Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah Riyad then comfortably finished the chase, securing Barishal’s victory by six wickets.
