Tamim eyeing to groom Mehedy as future leader of Tigers
Bangladesh former ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal said on Thursday that he is eyeing to groom Mehedy Hasan as future leader by giving him responsibility in the forthcoming Bangladesh Premier League, country’s lone franchise-based T20 tournament, scheduled to begin on January 19.
Fortune Barishal appointed Tamim as their captain for the upcoming edition of BPL but according to him in the coming days Mehedy will be seen in lot of leadership activities.
“The franchise given me the responsibility of captaincy and I will try to do my best. I have spoken with regarding it that if I can grow Miraj with me in that case it will be good. Along with me there is Riyad bhai and Mushfiq bhai and out of them two have retired from T20 and Riyad bhai have very slim chance of captaining the T20 side. Miraj have a future and he can be future captain (national team). Even last year I was not the captain but was active in the field and I think I can do the same by giving the responsibility to Miraj,” Tamim told reporters on Thursday.
“In lot of matches I will ask him to run the team as per his wish. I am there along with Mushfiq bhai and Riyad bhai and we will help him in this regard and if he can gain experience from it he can lead franchises and Bangladesh team in future,” he said adding that if he can take his team till the very end of BPL in that case he will be satisfied as far as reaching the goal is concerned.
‘I certainly have it( personal goal) and that is to win the game for my team and that is my only goal and if I can go till the end with this team it will be my biggest achievement,” he concluded.
