Sylhet’s Misery Continues After Fifth Consecutive Defeat

Sylhet Strikers’ misery continued as they conceded fifth consecutive defeat to Fortune Barishal by 49-run in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 at their home Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday night.

Going to bat first, Barishal posted an emphatic 186-5 in the stipulated 20 overs, courtesy of batters especially opener Ahmed Shehzad and Mahmudullah.

Shehzad scored 66 off 41 balls while Mahmudullah made a late blitz of unbeaten 51 off 24 balls. Among others, Mushfiqur Rahim added 22, Soumya Sarkar 20 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz unbeaten 15.

Barishal, who were 134-5 after 17 overs, accelerated their run rate in the last three overs as they took 52 runs which included 21 and 17 off Richard Ngarava’s overs.

Sylhet all-rounder Benny Howell took 3-21 in his four overs.

In response, Sylhet were left struggling at 52-3, though their opener Shamsur Rahman contributed 25 before his dismissal.

Then, Zakir Hasan (46) and Howell (24) put up a 58-run stand to bring their side back in the match.

But Sylhet’s hope was shattered when both the batters departed in successive deliveries. Sylhet were bowled out for 137 runs in 17.3 overs.
