Shakib’s BPL Future Under Cloud

Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan is currently going through accommodative treatment, Bangladesh Cricket Board official said on Monday.

Shakib is currently in Singapore undergoing eye checkups and his immediate future in the BPL for Rangpur Riders is currently under cloud.

It was learnt Shakib will miss the next three matches for Riders in the BPL but if he need to go under the knife in that case the number of matches might increase.

The problem first surfaced at the World Cup in India last year. Shakib saw ophthalmologists in India and then in Bangladesh after returning to the country following the World Cup.

BCB official confirmed Shakib is still under accommodative treatment and they are waiting for conclusive findings regarding his eyes.

After BCB receives the report at that point of time they will take a conclusive decision regarding his treatment following a meeting with everyone concerned to choose the best possible option.

It was reported that he had blurred vision on one side of his left eye due to stress and it had a huge impact on his batting.

According to medical science, the eye is considered an extension of the brain and so when stress affects the brain it also in turn affects the eyes and the vascular system. When stress hormones are released, they can directly impact vision. Chronic stress increases risk for high blood pressure and it thickens blood vessels while restricting blood flow to the retina. This is known as hypertensive retinopathy and the symptoms include double vision and blurred or reduced vision.
