Riders Receive Babar Boost

Rangpur Riders official said on Sunday former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam will be available for them in their second game in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, country’s lone franchise-based T20 tournament.

“He (Babar) is expected to be available for us in the second game,” the official said ahead of their game against Sylhet Strikers, scheduled at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on January 23.

It is a huge relief for Riders considering some of the Pakistani players did not receive NOC to take part in BPL where as Pakistan Cricket Board did not prevent Babar, Mohammad Wasim Junior, Mohammad Rizwan, and Abbas Afridi from participating in the ongoing BPL 2024.

Chattogram Challengers said on Sunday that their Pakistan batter Muhammad Haris has left the camp as he did not receive a NOC (No-Objection Certificate) to play in the 10th Bangladesh Premier League from Pakistan Cricket Board.

“Haris leaves with a heavy heart as he was looking forward to contributing to the Challengers’ title challenge,” Challengers stated in a press release provided to media through their WhatsApp group.

“He did not receive the green signal from PCB to play in BPL as he has already played two leagues in the July, 2023 to July, 2024 period, which is the permitted limit by the board,” it added.

Furthermore, Riders received a huge blow after ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan left Dhaka on Sunday for Singapore to have eye treatment as his eye problem recurred recently.

Shakib is all set to miss remaining first-phase matches of Bangladesh Premier League, scheduled in Dhaka, as he will be in Singapore to have eye check-up. His participation in the opening game of Sylhet phase is also in doubt as per insiders.
