Mashrafee Bhai is Still Our Captain, Insist Striker Skipper Mithun

Sylhet Strikers stand-in skipper Mohammad Mithun said on Friday that their inspirational leader Mashrafee bin Mortaza still hold the key despite being away from them in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, country’s lone franchise-based T20 tournament.

Mashrafee, who played five matches in the tournament despite an injury due to his franchise’s demand and lost all of them, took a break from the BPL due to political commitment. It opened the door for Mohammad Mithun to lead the side and he seized the opportunity with both hands to guide his team to their first victory, making 59 off 46 balls.

However, Mithun insisted that Mashrafee is very much involved with Strikers without being physically present.

“Mashrafe bhai is still our captain. In his absence, I am fulfilling this responsibility. He is always involved with us in planning how things will progress from the beginning of our team. Even today, we had discussions in the morning. Due to his busy schedule, he cannot be with us,” said Mithun after their 15-run win.

“I had the same desire to win as Mashrafe bhai. He has given his utmost effort for his side. Unfortunately, the desired results did not come. We cannot guarantee a win. We can maintain the process. We can maintain the team’s understanding and environment. That’s what we are striving for. There are many aspects of luck as well,” he added.
