Ireland Announces Squad for Landmark Series Against Scotland in Spain

Ireland Women’s Cricket team has revealed its 15-player squad for an upcoming white-ball series set to take place in Spain from October 17 to 24. The series is a significant event comprising three ODIs followed by two T20Is, marking Scotland’s inaugural official ODI matches since attaining ODI status in 2022.

The matches are scheduled to be held at Deserts Springs in Spain, with the ODIs on October 17, 19, and 21, while the T20Is will be played on October 23 and 24.

Ed Joyce, the Head Coach of Ireland Women, expressed the importance of this series in the team’s preparation for significant upcoming events, stating, “This series is certainly timely as we build towards a big 2024 – a year that features a T20 World Cup that we are obviously seeking to qualify for.”

Joyce also highlighted the composition of the squad, emphasizing a blend of seasoned players and promising emerging talents, indicating a strategic approach towards building experience and knowledge among the players.

The squad announcement introduces several fresh faces, including Joanna Loughran, Alana Dalzell, and Freya Sargent. Joyce elaborated on these selections, particularly praising the achievements and potential of the younger players.

“Loughran, who previously featured in the Ireland Under-19s Women’s squad at the ICC Under-19 Women’s Cricket World Cup, has been rewarded with her first senior squad call-up following a breakthrough year,” Joyce commented. “Dalzell, a promising seam-bowling all-rounder, returns to the senior set-up after her debut against South Africa last year. Sargent, at 17, showcased impressive consistency and game awareness during the recent Netherlands series, leading to her inclusion.”

The squad boasts a mix of experience and youthful talent, aiming to make an impact in this series and provide opportunities for emerging players to gain exposure and refine their skills.
