I Want To Play Across Format – Tanzid Tamim

Bangladesh’s young opening batter, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, who is currently playing only in the fifty-over games, vowed to play across formats for the national side. Not only that, the ICC Under-19 World Cup-winning campaigner was also adamant about dominating in all three formats for the nation During an exclusive chat with Kriknews the left-handed batsman promised to help the Bangladesh national cricket team conquer their never-ending woes in the opening slot.
Here are the excerpts
Q. You have been doing well in this season of the BPL. Are you expecting better than the ongoing outing?
Tanzid: Look, whatever is happening now is fine with me and I am happy and the good thing is that along with me our team is also performing. However, my contentment would be double if I could perform consistently.
Q. You made 49 against the Durdanto Dhaka and 50 against the Sylhet Strikers. Don’t you think you should have extended the innings since you have been considered the next big thing in the opening slot for the Bangladesh national team?
Tanzid: Of course it is. I think if I don’t repeat my past mistakes in the next games, it will help me play flawlessly. And definitely, it would be better if I could have finished the matches that would also be instrumental for my team as well. I have to fix the errors by being strong mentally, and of course I would be eager to finish the innings further.
Q. What possible results are you expecting this season as per the strength of your side?
Tanzid: In fact, we are moving forward, match by match, from the very first day of the tournament. The matches we have lost so far we had nothing to do. We are focusing on the upcoming games so that we can do well. To be honest, we aren’t bothered about our position in the points table.
Q. Apart from Tamim Iqbal, no one else could become a permanent member in the opening slot for the last decade. Do you think you can fill the dearth?
Tanzid: Definitely. Look, I never thought the way you do. In fact, I always want to live in the present and never overthink. I was handed opportunities that I couldn’t capitalize on, but if I get them again, I will be trying to maximize them.
Q. With the approaching ICC T20 World Cup and Sri Lanka series along with the Zimbabwe series in mind do you feel BPL as an ideal platform for the build-up?
Tanzid: Look, I told you earlier that I never thought so far. For now, I am focusing on match by match in the BPL along with doing something better for my team, the Chattogram Challengers, and I am opting to stick to it.
Q. You couldn’t perform as per the expected level in the ICC World Cup that was held in India. Does it hurt you?
Tanzid: I am not dejected on the back of my lean patches in the global meet, but no one would be happier than me if my team got result. I acknowledge that I couldn’t do anything significant at the World Cup. But I think that there are so many things to learn from it. In fact, I want to think positively. In the World Cup, I could learn a lot of things, as I have featured there against the top performers around the globe. I have watched their batting. So I think it will guide me greatly in the future.
Q. Where do you want to find yourself in the future in your international career?
Tanzid: I want to play across formats for Bangladesh and want to dominate in all formats of the game.
Q: Who is your batting idol?
Tanzid: In fact, I have grown up seeing Tamim Bhai’s [Tamim Iqbal] batting. I was inspired by him during my childhood. He also motivates me when we meet each other. And I also talk to him about everything related to batting. I only like his batting. But I also watch everyone’s batting from the international arena, especially the left-handers, believing that someday it will help me.
