Holders Comilla Open Account in BPL

Reigning champions Comilla Victorians opened their account in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2024 (BPL) with a 4-wicket win over Fortune Barishal in their exciting second match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Tuesday night.

Chasing a target of 162 set by Barishal, Comilla needed 11 runs from the last four deliveries of their innings after Imrul Kayes set the base with a 52 off 41 balls

West Indian all-rounder Matthew Forde hit Khaled Ahmed for a six and four to bring the equation down to one from two, and a single in the final ball led to Comilla to a thrilling win. Jakir Ali scored the second highest 23 off 20 balls.

Sri Lankan bowler Dunith Wellalage bagged 3-26 for Barishal.

Earlier, after being put in to bat first, Mushfiqur Rahim — who scored 62 off 44 deliveries, an innings that took him past 3,000 runs in BPL —  alongside Soumya Sarkar’s 42, allowed Barishal to post 161-9.

Mustafizur Rahman picked up three wickets for Comilla, while Forde and Roston Chase bagged two-wicket each.
