Family Asks Why You Can’t Win – DD’s Stand-in Skipper Taskin
Durdanto Dhaka’s stand-in skipper Taskin Ahmed said on Saturday that their batting failure made them pay in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League.
Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah struck blistering fifties to help Fortune Barishal register a comprehensive 40-run win over Durdanto Dhaka in their eighth Bangladesh Premier League in Mirpur on Saturday.
Soumya smashed an unbeaten 75 off 48 balls with four fours and six sixes while Mahmudullah made 73 off 47 balls with seven fours and four sixes to help Barishal post 189-4 in their 20 overs after they elected to bat first.
Dhaka, in reply, were reduced to 41-3 in the seventh over before Alex Ross (52) and SM Meherob Hasan (28) shared a 39-run stand for the fourth wicket. However, Barishal bowlers hit back after the partnership was broken as they took regular wickets to bowl Dhaka all out for 149 runs in 19.4 overs. Mohammad Saifuddin finished with 3-21.
With this defeat, Dhaka became the first team to get eliminated from the ongoing edition of BPL. Dhaka, who won their opening game against Comilla, suffered eight consecutive defeats since then and it’s a new BPL record as well.
“We have failed in batting most of the matches,” Taskin told reporters following their defeat against Fortune Barishal at the SBNS on Saturday.
“It’s definitely not a good feeling. We also have families. They also ask, why can’t you win,” he said.
“Several players in the team have played well. Naeem Sheikh scored the maximum runs while Shoriful is the highest wicket. If they can finish well there will be some gains. A good ending will bring some peace. Everyone has a career. I have expectations as an icon cricketer. I wish I could play better cricket,” he said.
