Comilla Suffer Shocking Defeat Against Sylhet 

Despite Liton Das’s 85 off 58 balls, holders Comilla Victorians suffered a shocking 12-run defeat against Sylhet Strikers in their match of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Monday.

Electing to bat first, Sylhet posted 177-5 in the stipulated 20 overs, courtesy of Benny Howell’s quickfire 62 off 31 balls.

Kennar Lewis and captain Mohammad Mithun contributed 33 and 28 runs respectively for Sylhet. 

Sunil Narine and Rishad Hossain took two wickets each for Comilla.

Chasing the mediocre target of 178, Comilla got an early blow when their veteran opener Imrul Kayes was dismissed on just 3. But Liton, who opened the innings, batted till the final over of the match before losing his wicket to pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib.

Andre Russell scored the second highest 23 for Comilla, but that was not enough as the holders finished on 165-6.

Tanzim got the wicket of Russell in his final ball to finish with three for 33 but it was the spells from English spinner Samit Patel and local medium pacer Shafiqul Islam that made the biggest impact. 

Despite losing the match, Comilla remained second with 14 points from 10 matches and Sylhet had eight points in 11 games.
