Chattogram Challengers and Khulna Tigers Clinch Dominant Victories in BPL 2024

Chattogram Challengers and Khulna Tigers dominated the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) scene with thrilling victories on Monday. In an action-packed showdown, the Challengers conquered Durdanto Dhaka, while the Tigers roared to success against Barisal Bulls at the iconic Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Dhaka set the stage with a score of 136 for eight, led by the impressive Lasith Croospulle, stepping in as a concussion replacement for the opener Danushka Gunathilaka. The explosive match showcased Irfan Sukkur’s contribution of 27 and Alex Ross adding 11. However, the other batters struggled to hit double digits, creating an intense and unpredictable atmosphere on the field. 

Challengers’ bowlers, Al Amin Hossain (2/15) and Bilal Khan (2/28), emerged as the architects of Dhaka’s downfall, orchestrating a brilliant display to stifle their innings. 

In a thrilling response, the Challengers coolly hunted down the target with 10 balls to spare and six wickets in hand. Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s explosive 49 and Najibullah Zadran’s solid 32 stole the show.

In the subsequent clash, the Tigers roared to an emphatic eight-wicket triumph against the Bulls, sealing the deal with a dazzling 12 balls still in their arsenal.

In a dazzling display of power-hitting, openers Evin Lewis and Anamul Haque Bijoy lit up the cricketing stage with scintillating fifties. Lewis smashed 53 off just 22 balls, unleashing five sixes and five fours, while Bijoy remained unbeaten on a stylish 63. Afif Hossain added flair with 42, and Shai Hope closed the show with a blistering 25 off 10 balls. Despite the heroics, the earlier hero Mushfiqur Rahim’s 68 off 39 balls, supported by Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad, couldn’t secure victory for the Tigers. 

Nevertheless, amidst the clash, Tamim Iqbal carved his name in the record books, reaching an impressive milestone of 3000 runs in the BPL – a feat unmatched by any batter to date.
