BPL Highlight: What Sets Tawhid Apart With His Century?

When Tawhid Hridoy entered the pitch, the Comilla Victorians were already facing adversity with three wickets down for just 23 runs, making their pursuit of a challenging target of 176 appear daunting.

However, Hridoy remained steadfast. Exhibiting skill and composure, he guided his team to an impressive five-wicket triumph, achieving his inaugural century in the format — the first of the ongoing season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

His remarkable innings concluded with a superb 108 runs off only 57 deliveries, embellished with eight boundaries and seven maximums—bold strokes against a formidable opposition.

His century marked only the sixth by Bangladeshi batsmen in the history of the BPL. Overall, it was the 30th century in this esteemed T20 league in the nation.

In a post-match interview, the right-handed batsman expressed gratitude for the opportunity to bat higher up the order, acknowledging his captain and the team management for their support.

“I am thankful for the chance to bat at the top,” he stated. “I extend my appreciation to my captain and the team management.”

Hridoy has gained recognition as one of the premier batters since his days in U-19 cricket and has since become a vital asset to the national team in white-ball cricket. Despite the acclaim, he maintains a humble outlook.

Reflecting on his century in the BPL, Hridoy modestly mentioned that while every century is meaningful to him, his three centuries against Sri Lanka at the U-19 level hold a special place in his memory.

“Every century holds significance,” he affirmed, “but those three against Sri Lanka in the U-19s are particularly memorable to me.”
