BPL 2024: Tawhid Shines At Mirpur As Dhaka Endures Their 7th Consecutive Loss

Tawhid Hridoy showcased a remarkable performance, scoring the first century of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season and leading Comilla Victorians to a convincing five-wicket victory over struggling Durdanto Dhaka at Mirpur on Friday.

Hridoy achieved his debut BPL century in just 53 deliveries, comprising eight boundaries and six maximums. After reaching his fifty in 32 balls, he accelerated to reach the hundred milestone in only 21 more deliveries. Immediately after reaching the century mark, he continued to display his power by hitting Dhaka’s captain Taskin Ahmed for a seventh six.

This accomplishment places Hridoy among the select group of six Bangladeshi batsmen to have scored a century in the BPL.

With this triumph, Comilla Victorians gathered 10 points from seven matches, securing five wins and positioning themselves in the top three of the points table.

In the first innings, Dhaka put up a competitive total of 175 for four, driven by strong performances from Mohammad Naim (64) and Saif Hassan (57). Matthew Forde led the bowling attack for the Victorians, claiming three crucial wickets.

Comilla’s chase encountered an early setback, losing three wickets for just 23 runs. However, Hridoy’s exceptional century turned the tide of the match.

What made Hridoy’s innings even more impressive was his ability to see the job through to the end, finishing unbeaten on 108 runs off 57 balls to seal the victory. Brooke Guest contributed with a valuable 34 runs.

While Comilla Victorians consolidate their position in the top tier, Dhaka continues to struggle at the bottom of the table, enduring their seventh consecutive defeat in the current eight-match series.
