BPL 2024 Schedule Revealed, Faces Overlapping Dates with Five Other T20 Leagues

The eagerly anticipated Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024, scheduled from January 19 to March 1, is set to contend with overlapping dates with five other T20 leagues in the January-February timeframe.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) unveiled the BPL schedule on Monday, coinciding with other prominent T20 leagues. The ILT20 in the UAE is slated for January 19 to February 17, while the SA20 league in South Africa will unfold from January 10 to February 10. Australia’s BBL, which commenced on December 7, will extend until January 24. New Zealand’s Super Smash is scheduled from December 19 to January 28. Notably, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to take place from mid-February to mid-March, posing potential challenges for the BPL, given its heavy reliance on Pakistani players for overseas recruitment.

In the previous season, the BPL featured 25 Pakistani cricketers, including notable players like Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Rizwan, along with T20 debutant Khawaja Nafay, a tape-ball specialist. Besides Pakistani talent, players from Afghanistan, England, and the West Indies remain in high demand in the BPL. Teams have also recruited players from the Netherlands, Ireland, South Africa, USA, and Zimbabwe in the past season.

The BPL matches are scheduled to take place at the customary venues in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet, with the playoffs commencing in Dhaka on February 25. The league faces the challenge of managing player availability and team dynamics amidst the concurrent scheduling of multiple T20 tournaments worldwide.
