BPL 2024: Rangpur Strengthens Hold On BPL Title As Abu Hider Delivers Outstanding Performance

Left-arm pacer Abu Hider Rony showcased an extraordinary performance in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), crafting a historic achievement on the pitch.

His remarkable figures of five wickets for just 12 runs weren’t just exceptional; they set a new standard as the best bowling display by a Bangladeshi player in the tournament’s history.

Thanks to Hider’s brilliance, Rangpur Riders further solidified their position at the top of the BPL points table, prevailing over a resilient Fortune Barishal in a tense clash in Chattogram.

Batting first, Barishal struggled to score runs, facing a tough bowling challenge. Despite Kyle Mayers’ contribution of 46 runs, key players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Soumya Sarkar, and Mahmudullah Riyad faltered against the relentless bowling attack.

Abu Hider led Rangpur’s bowling charge with precision, claiming five wickets, while Hasan Mahmud chipped in with two of his own.

Rangpur’s batting innings got off to a shaky start with Mominul Haque’s dismissal for a duck. However, Brandon King and Shakib Al Hasan stabilised the innings, forging a crucial partnership of 53 runs.

Barishal’s bowlers, Obed McCoy and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, fought back strongly, each taking three wickets and posing a threat to Rangpur’s victory. Yet, James Neesham and Dwaine Pretorius remained composed, guiding Rangpur to a narrow one-wicket win with three balls to spare.

While Barishal’s hopes for a playoff spot dimmed slightly, they still have a chance to qualify, depending on the outcome of their upcoming match against the Comilla Victorians and other results across the league.
