BCB Likely To Make A Call On Shakib’s Captaincy In Jan 12 Meeting
Bangladesh Cricket Board is likely to make a call on the captaincy issue in the board directors meeting at the Sher-e- Bangla National Stadium today.
Bangladesh’s cross-format skipper Shakib al Hasan on numerous occasions said that he is yet to decide whether he will continue to lead the national team or not in the coming days and will make a call after talking with the board high-ups.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan is expected to talk with Shakib regarding his future plans before going to the board meeting. The availability of Shakib is also a concern considering he is carrying an eye problem though he hardly looked troubled while batting in the last two games for Rangpur Riders in the last two games for Comilla Victorians.
“We have to know about his( Shakib’s) availability before making a final call regarding how long he is available and what is his future plan because captaincy is not just leading the team in the field but there are other activities related to it,” said the official.
During Shakib’s absence Najmul led Bangladesh in cross-format cricket and his leadership qualities impressed Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha to an extent that he wanted him to be leading the side on a long term basis rather than series by series.
Apart from the captaincy issue, BCB directors will discuss the report that is expected to be submitted by a special committee which was formed to assess the failure in the last edition of ICC World Cup.
The BCB directors will also discuss on the selection panel while they will also approve the foreign coaches after some of them went vacant in the recent past.
There will also be a discussion regarding the Sheikh Hasina International Cricket while the board will also discuss purchasing of lands to establish new cricket grounds.
