BCB Appoints Bashar As Women’s Wing Head

Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Tuesday that they have appointed former national skipper Habibul Bashar as the head of women’s cricket.

BCB women’s wing chairman Nadel Chowdhury handed over the new responsibility to Habibul, who worked as the member of the national selection panel from 2016 to 2024 until it was dissolved recently.

“We have discussed how to go forward in the coming days with women’s cricket. I think it’s a huge plus for the women’s wing to have someone like Habibul Bashar as the head of the department. I think it’s a big opportunity for him,” a member of the women’s wing told Kriknews on Tuesday.

“As an in-charge Habibul will be doing the planning that the women’s wing will execute to take the game forward while he will also oversee operational activities and take necessary steps to help the women’s wing work better,” he said.

It is understood that David Moore (BCB program head) will do the corresponding with different boards as well as ICC and the duo will later make the plan of action.

The previous national selection panel which includes Minhajul Abedin (chief selector), Habibul Bashar (selector) and Abdur Razzak (selector), completed its tenure on December 31. Later the panel was extended for two months and their tenure till February 2024 and afterwards the board decided to exclude Minhajul and Habibul from the selection panel and replaced them with Gazi Ashraf Hossain and Hannan Sarkar.

Minhajul was in the selection panel since 2011 but was appointed the chief selector in 2016 while Habibul was previously with the women’s selection team but later took the post in the men’s panel in 2016.
